SEEKING MODELS FOR "A MAD TEA PARTY" RACKHAM, ARTHUR. Autograph Letter Signed, to "Dear Emanuel" [but name struck out], with small ink drawing, thanking for his attempt to engage Alice [presumably a model to play the role of Alice in his painting, A Mad Tea Party (1907)], remarking that his current model does not look quite like the character he imagined, suggesting that his aunt would make a good model of the dormouse, and offering a sketch of his aunt as the dormouse. The drawing, sketch of hunched old woman with mouse's tail at upper center of verso, 2¼x1½ inches. 2 pages, small 8vo, personal stationery, written on recto and verso of a single sheet; horizontal fold. [London], 24 April 1907

Additional Details

"It is very kind of you to have tried to get Alice for me. I quite understand E.T.R.'s [Edward Tennyson Reed's?] objection & sympathies, but of course I am disappointed nonetheless.
"I have a small professional model sitting in the part [playing the role of Alice?] today--but she's not quite my idea. I think your aunt would be most valuable for the mad tea party scene-- [drawing of dormouse].
"What on earth is a dormouse like; & how big?"
